Hello God

Have you ever started your prayer off with “Hello God” or “It’s me again God”? I have told Him that I have a problem that “I can’t fix it” and asked Him to help me with it. You know the strange thing about it is He already knew it, but He wanted me to tell Him and He wanted me to ask for His help. You see He wants to communicate with His children and the only way He can is when we are willing to say “Hello God” or “It’s me again God”.

I think we get so busy in the things of the world, that our PRAYER LIFE is lost in life’s shuffle. When we do pray so often we pray a “Now I lay me down to sleep” kind of prayer instead of really getting down to business and talking to God “one on one” and that is the language He understands. I don’t care whether we pray on bended knee or walk the floor crying out to God, we must pray until we pray through as the old time Christians would say.

Luke 11: 1-4 - gives us an example of the correct way to pray. Here we see a man interceding for a “friend”. A “friend” goes to another “friends” house asking for food for a “friend”. He is hungry. There were no convenient stores nearby in Bible times. You asked “friends” if you were out of food. The asking “friend” is an INTERCESSOR…a middle age man …. For his visiting “friend”. It was the responsibility of the host to feed a guest in his house. It was a SHAME not to be able to provide for a guest.

That’s what God wants us to be …INTERCESSORS. The Lost don’t have access to our “Friend”, the Lord Jesus Christ. They don’t have access to His Throne. God won’t hear their prayers, other than their prayer of REPENTANCE. I wish I could save everyone, BUT …I can’t. HOWEVER…I know Someone who can! AND … I can go to Him on their behalf. That’s what “friends” do! God has the resources to meet their spiritual needs…I don’t. THEREFORE …It is my RESPONSIBILITY to go to God on their behalf.

What should I pray for? I should pray that they might see their need for a Savior. I should pray that they might see their HOPE as being only in CHRIST alone. I should pray that they might realize they are bound for an ETERNITY in the “Lake of Fire”. I see their NEED…I know their only HOPE … I realize their FATE. So, I am to PRAY.

In spite of their initial denial in this chapter we find in this chapter, he finally relented and got up and gave him bread, But NOTE: He didn’t give it him on the basis of his “friendship” BUT … on the basis of his PERSISTENCE … “His pestering”.

There are several things we could learn in this parable:

  1. Our attitude in coming to God - When we go to God, we don’t go to Him as His NEIGHBOR, or even His FRIEND, but as His CHILD. You don’t have to knock down His door. WHY? Because He WANTS to meet all your needs. Phil. 4:19 – “But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” THEREFORE … we don’t need to be ARROGANT as this man was to his neighbor….knocking down his door.
  2. God’s attitude in answering: Our Heavenly Father is DELIGHTED to meet all our needs. See 11:13. He wants you to come and ask Him. This is in CONTRAST to the neighbor.
  3. Our attitude in asking: What should be our sole purpose in coming to God? To get what we ask for? Careful now! The important thing to remember in coming to GOD is not so OUR WILL will prevail but HIS WILL. “Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven”.

Sometimes we ask God for Ice Cream when we are hungry and God knows we need “Cornbread and Milk”. Sometimes we ask God for “Cornbread and Milk” and He wants to give us “Ice Cream”.

We should be vocal when we come to God. In other words we need to ASK. If we don’t ask, we won’t receive. If we don’t ASK Him, we won’t THANK Him. We won’t recognize it as a gift from GOD. So we are to keep on asking….that means we are to keep praying. We are to keep on persisting. That will get our loved ones saved. Be VIGILANT, keep on knocking UNTIL you receive either: His answer or PEACE that He will take care of the problem. Just say “HELLO GOD”. It’s me again and I am asking.

Today we live in a world filled with anxiety. There is much for the Christian to pray about. Satan is on the loose and is seeking whom he can devour. He comes around my house quite often, so I know as a Christian he is bothering you. He throws his fiery darts at us to try to destroy our peace, but we can have the peace of God in the midst of our storm as long as we hold to His Word and pray continually. Put on the whole armor of God and don’t forget to say “HELLO GOD” every day.
